Capra Dominates Loons
July 12, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release
GENEVA, IL - Anthony Capra took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Loons dropped their seventh game on their current road trip, falling Sunday to Kane County 7-3.
Capra was perfect through 3 1/3 innings. He walked three batters before facing Tony Delmonico with no outs in the seventh, and Delmonico doubled over center fielder David Thomas. Capra pitched seven complete shutout innings, striking out eight.
As solid as Capra was, reliever Daniel Thomas was equally bad. He entered in the ninth with the Cougars ahead 7-1 and in his season debut with the Cougars, walked the first four batters he faced, forcing Cougars manager Steve Scarsone to bring in Josue Selenis after having thrown two innings the day before. Selenis surrendered a sacrifice fly to Anthony Hatch and a walk to Matt Wallach, allowing the tying run to come to the plate in the ninth.
But Selenis struck out Esteban Lopez and induced a ground out off the bat of Dee Gordon.
Bobby Blevins (6-7) started for the Loons and retired the first 11 batters he faced before a single in the fourth by Jason Christian. But in the fifth, the Cougars batted around scoring three runs off Blevins.
Kane County tacked on three more in the sixth off reliever Robert Boothe (two earned).
The Loons have now lost seven of nine on their current 10-game road trip, which comes to a conclusion Monday afternoon against the Cougars. Right-hander Justin Miller (4-5, 4.53) will start for the Loons against right-hander Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (1-2, 2.63). Game time is 1pm ET. The game will be carried on ESPN 100.9-FM and online at Loons.com.
