West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

BELOIT, WI- Ten runs in the third inning powered the West Michigan Whitecaps to an 11-3 win over the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field on Sunday afternoon. The Whitecaps took out their frustration from a late-inning collapse the night before by smashing seventeen hits in a game that was never in doubt. Each team has won a game in the series.

Beloit started the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Whitecaps' starter Mark Sorensen gave up back-to-back singles to Ramon Santana and Ozzie Lewis followed by Tyler Ladendorf's two-run double to put Beloit ahead 2-0.

West Michigan tallied a run in the second. Billy Nowlin led off with a double, and he scored on Avisail Garcia's groundball to third that was misplayed by Ramon Santana.

The third inning was the difference in the game. The Whitecaps erupted for the second most runs in an inning this season. West Michigan sent fourteen men to the plate and scored 10 runs on 9 hits off Beloit starter Daniel Osterbrock and reliever Tom Wright. The ten run total is second only to the July 5th total of 13 against the Dayton Dragons in the first inning.

Mark Sorensen took over from that point on and worked his way through 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. The win improves Sorensen's record to 5-2.

Osterbrock (4-7) lasted only 2.2 innings, allowing up 9 hits and 10 earned runs for the loss. He walked 2 and did not strikeout anyone.

Ben Guez, Billy Nowlin, and Angel Flores all had 3 hits for the Whitecaps. Brent Wyatt, Bryan Pounds, and Mike Gosse each totaled 2 hits. Nowlin finished with 4 RBI.

The series concludes Monday night at Pohlman Field as the Whitecaps will start Luke Putkonen who is 5-5 with a 3.66 ERA.
