ABOUT LAST GAME: Fort Wayne's three-game winning streak came to an end in a 5-1 loss to Great Lakes.
FEDX ARRIVES: Padres catcher Tim Federowicz is with the TinCaps to rehab a right knee injury. Federowicz tore the meniscus in his right knee during Spring Training and had surgery in March. He caught a simulated bullpen for San Diego on Saturday afternoon in Texas, where the Padres are playing the Rangers, and flew to Fort Wayne afterward.
BIG LEAGUE BACKGROUND: Federowicz, 27, was acquired by the Padres in Dec. from the Dodgers in a trade that also brought Matt Kemp to San Diego. The University of North Carolina alum was drafted by the Red Sox in 2008 in the 7th round. He was traded by Boston to Los Angeles in 2011.The catcher made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in September of 2011. After playing seven games with L.A. that year, Federowicz returned to the Dodgers for parts of the 2012, '13, and '14 seasons. In 89 career big league games, he has a .194 batting average with five home runs and 22 RBIs.
TINCAPS REHAB HISTORY: This marks the first time the Padres have sent a player to rehab with the TinCaps at Parkview Field. A look back at the only other rehabbers the TinCaps have had...
- Infielder David Eckstein - August 18-20, 2010 at West Michigan
- Infielder Everth Cabrera - July 2-3, 2013 at South Bend
HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE: The TinCaps are 7-0-1 at Parkview Field over their last eight series here. Fort Wayne's record is 18-6 during the run that goes back to May 26 against Great Lakes.
PITCHING WINS: The TinCaps are 15-6 over their last 21 games. Saturday was just the fourth time in the span they've allowed more than three runs in a game. It's also the first time they've surrendered more than three runs in back-to-back games since June 16-17. In 193 2/3 innings of work since June 18, Fort Wayne has yielded 50 earned runs. That equates to a 2.32 ERA.
