Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - Ryan McBroom tied the franchise and league record for hits in a game, finishing six-for-six, but the Dayton Dragons' (9-9, 48-41) Argenis Aldazoro knocked a walk-off single to cap a three-run 13th and knock off the Lansing Lugnuts (9-9, 51-37), 10-9, Sunday at Fifth Third Field.
McBroom finished with a home run, two doubles, a walk, and four RBIs. The All-Star leads the league with 58 RBIs and a .345 average.
Lansing held five leads, but the Dragons scorched back before taking their first lead on the Aldazoro walk-off hit on Phil Kish (Loss, 1-1).
Jacob Moody (Win, 1-0) allowed a go-ahead, two-RBI single in the 13th to Ryan McBroom, but won his first game in the MWL.
Lansing's bullpen had chances to put away the Dragons in the ninth, 11th, and 13th.
Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a Paul Kronenfeld RBI single. Left fielder David Harris gunned out the winning runner, Luiz Gonzalez, to send the game to extra innings.
In the 11th, a fielding error at third allowed the Dragons to score the tying run and continue the contest.
Starter Chase Mallard tied a professional high with six innings pitched, allowing five runs. Lansing used four relievers. Mark Biggs and Carlos Ramirez each pitched 2.1 innings and allowed a combined two runs.
Lansing looks to avoid a four-game sweep Monday at 7:00 p.m., sending out University of Florida product Justin Shafer (4-0, 1.31 ERA) against the Dragons' Junior Morillo (1-4, 5.54). Shafer has not allowed an earned run in his last 13.1 innings pitched, a season high for Lugs pitchers.
Lansing's next homestand is July 15-17 against the South Bend Cubs. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
