Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - The Beloit Snappers came back to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the 11th inning thanks to a walk off RBI double by Justin Higley that was able to bring Max Kuhn in for the game winning run, making the final score 6-5.
The Rattlers started off hot, getting on the scoreboard with two runs in the first inning with Junior Mendez pitching for Beloit. Carlos Leal singled on a ground ball to right field to plate Brandon Diaz before Elvis Rubio doubled (19) on a ground ball to left field to score Tucker Neahaus.
Wisconsin's starting pitcher was the Milwaukee Brewers' Wily Peralta. He was assigned to the Timber Rattlers in order to make a rehab start. Peralta is coming back from a strained oblique that has left him sidelined since May 23rd. Obviously, he was on a strict pitch count as he hurled 2 2/3 innings while allowing two hits to the Snappers, one earned run, and earning four strike outs.
The hot streak continued in the second when Wisconsin was able to add another two runs because of a pair of RBI doubles by Diaz (12) and Neahaus (10), making the score 4-0.
Beloit got on the scoreboard in the third as Trent Gilbert singled on a line drive to center field that allowed Max Kuhn to cross the plate.
With Rob Huber pitching, Wisconsin's Gregory Munoz's line drive single to center field was able to score Greg McCall, making the score 5-1.
The Snappers were able to put up a four spot and tie up the game, 5-5, in the sixth with the help of an RBI ground out by Iolana Akau, a 2 RBI single by Higley to center field, and a throwing error by Wisconsin that allowed Higley to score.
Rob Huber and Carlos Navas both pitched in relief for Beloit, doing a great job of holding off the Timber Rattlers.
The next run to score was in the bottom of the 11th inning when Justin Higley got up to the plate an hit an RBI double to right center field to bring in Max Kuhn for the game winning run, making the final score 6-5.
Higley finished the game with two hits, a double, and three RBI.
Carlos Navas earned the win and goes to 3-1 on the season as he pitched 3 1/3 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six Timber Rattlers.
The Snappers will play the third game of this four-game set tomorrow at 2:00 PM CT. They'll send Brett Graves (7-3, 4.65 ERA) to the mound. He will be opposed by Wisconsin's Devin Williams (2-5, 3.27 ERA). You can bring your well behaved dog to ballpark tomorrow for Bark in the Park, sponsored by Pedigree.
