
Jordan Milbrath Dominates in Win at South Bend

(South Bend, IN) -The Lake County Captains have struggled all season against the South Bend Cubs and were in need of someone to step up on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Milbrath did just that as he threw a dominant seven innings, allowing no runs and just two hits. Taylor Murphy would homer as well as the Captains topped the Cubs, 3-1.
The Captains would take their first lead of the series in the top of the second inning. Bobby Bradley would walk to start the inning. Taylor Murphy then followed with his sixth homerun of the season. It was a two run homer deep over the rightfield fence for a 2-0 lead.
The Captains final run came in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Ordomar Valdez walked and stole second base. He would then score when Greg Allen laced a double to rightfield, it was his second double of the game. The Captains led after the top of the inning, 3-0.
Milbrath would sail through his seven innings of work. The first hit he allowed was a soft single to left by Yasiel Balaguert in the bottom of the second inning. A double play would keep it to a1-2-3 inning. Milbrath would face the minimum number of hitters through the first five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rashad Crawford would reach with two outs on an infield single. Milbrath would then get Charcer Burks to ground out to end the inning. Milbrath would walk Jason Vosler with one out in the seventh inning, but would retire the next two batters to strand the runner at first. No Cub's runner reached second base against Milbrath.
South Bend would get their lone run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning off reliever Nick Pasquale. With two outs, Pasqaule would allow back to back to back singles. The third hit was an RBI single by Burks to score Andrew Ely.
Anthony Santander went 0-3 in the game to end his hitting streak at eleven games. However, he did walk in the eighth inning to extend his on base streak to twelve in a row. It matches a season high set by Bobby Bradley.
Milbrath (3-7) earned the win with a season high 7.0 innings. He allowed no runs on just 2 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 4. Pasquale (8) earned a hold with 1.0 inning of relief. He allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 1. Luke Eubank (2) earned the save with 1.0 inning of work. He did not allow a hit, run or walk. Eubank struck out 2.
The Captains and Cubs will play at Four Winds Field for the final time this season on Monday night at 7:05. The Captains will send Sean Brady to the mound looking to split the four game series. You can hear all the action on 1330AM WINT.
