RHP Cody Hebner (1-2, 2.45) vs. RHP Brad Allen (3-5, 3.79)

Thursday, August 14, 2014 - Lansing, Mich. - First Pitch 7:05 p.m. - Game 121/139

About Last Game : After claiming the opener of their series at Lansing on Tuesday, 4-2, the TinCaps fell a run short of the Lugnuts on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss. Fort Wayne mustered only four hits and scored its only runs in the top of the seventh without the ball ever leaving the infield. Lansing broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh with a single, a sacrifice bunt, and two wild pitches.

A TinCaps Win Would : Avoid consecutive losses... Be a chance to gain ground on at least one team ahead of them in the playoff race, as two teams currently in front of the TinCaps - Lake County and Dayton - play each other. (Also of interest: Great Lakes hosts Bowling Green.) See the Standings below.

Locks for Hits : Fort Wayne first baseman Jake Bauers trimmed his long blonde hair earlier today in hopes that it would bring better fortunes at the plate.

Turnt Up : Since debuting with the TinCaps on July 13, Trea Turner's .427 batting average is fourth best in all of Minor League Baseball. His .496 on-base percentage is sixth best in MiLB.

Dustin Checks In : Dustin Peterson has at least one hit in three consecutive games for the first time since a five-game hitting streak July 9-13. The third baseman's average reached a second-half pinnacle of .273 on July 11 and has decline to as low as .242 in the last week. Peterson starts the night hitting .246.

Perez's Precision : Fernando Perez is on a 10-game hitting streak dating back to Sunday, August 3. It's his longest hitting streak since he hit safely in 11 games in a row from April 9-22. Fort Wayne's longest individual hitting streak this season was 18 by Jake Bauers.

"A" Team : TinCaps catcher John Nester is one of three players in this series who has played in the Midwest League before in the A's organization. Nester was drafted by Oakland in 2010 and played for Burlington in 2011 and 2012. Meanwhile, Fort Wayne's starter Tuesday, Ronald Herrera, and Wednesday's Lugnuts starter, Brent Powers, both began 2014 in Beloit's rotation (the A's changed affiliations last year) before being traded and released, respectively.

Sir Charles : Henry Charles hit his fifth home run of the season for the TinCaps on Tuesday. It was his second in his last three games. The outfielder was homerless in his first 30 contests until May 20.
