Dayton Dragons News Release

Eastlake, Ohio-Paul Hendrix blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning as the Lake County Captains came from behind to defeat the Dayton Dragons 4-3 on Thursday night. Lake County won two-out-of-three in the series.

The Dragons completed their seven-game road trip with a 3-4 record. The loss dropped them into a tie with Great Lakes for the wildcard slot in the East Division Second Half playoff race with 18 games to play.

The Dragons trailed 2-0 going to the sixth inning and had not advanced a runner past first base on the night. Jon Matthews walked to open the sixth and Ronald Bueno reached on a bunt single. Phillip Ervin walked with one out to load the bases. Tanner Rahier hit a ground ball that was fielded by Hendrix, the second baseman, but he dropped the ball before he could throw to second and a run scored. Jose Ortiz followed with a two-run single to center field to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.

Lake County took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh. Hendrix came to the plate with one out and a runner at first base and drilled a home run to left off Dragons reliever Nolan Becker (1-2) to give the Captains a 4-3 lead.

The Dragons had a great chance to tie the game in the eighth. Ervin reached on an error to begin the inning. Rahier then hit a hard ground ball down the third base line. Lake County third baseman Grant Fink made a great diving stop and threw to first base. Rahier was called out on a controversial call that the Dragons vehemently argued. Ervin then stole third and Ortiz walked to set up a first-and-third, one-out situation. Robert Ramirez smashed the first pitch, drilling a line drive along the first base line, but it was directly at Lake County's Nellie Rodriguez, who made the catch and stepped on first to complete a double play to end the inning. The Dragons were retired in order in the ninth to end the game.

The Dragons (25-27) return home to host the Bowling Green Hot Rods (24-28) in the first game of a three-game series on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Nick Travieso (10-5, 3.33) will start for the Dragons against Bowling Green's Jake Faria (7-7, 3.70). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372). Former Reds pitcher Doug Bair will be the guest commentator.

All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at wone.com and through the Dragons Mobile App.
