GENEVA, Ill.- Each contest of the three-game sweep featured a Cougars' four-run frame to take the lead and eventually the win. Trey Martin and the Cougars (32-20, 77-45) put up four runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-1 win over the River Bandits (25-27, 60-61) in front of 11,202 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.

Quad Cities' starter Troy Scribner (0-2) had the Cougars nearly hitless through the first seven frames. Chesny Young became the first Cougars' base runner with a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth. Young reached base again in the eighth to start the Cougars' rally.

Down 1-0, Young led off the eighth with a double and moved to third on Carlos Penalver's single. Omar Lopez came out to the mound to check on his pitcher that had been dealing through seven innings, but suddenly found himself in trouble with runners at the corner and one out. Lopez elected to keep the starter in. Scribner followed the mound visit by surrendering a three-run home run to Martin. The three-run bomb was the outfielder's second home run of the season, the first being a grand slam. Scribner left the ballgame after the go-ahead blast.

Victor Caratini tacked on another run with an RBI double off of Albert Minnis to put the Cougars ahead 4-1.

Jasvir Rakkar (1-0) stretched his Cougars' scoreless innings streak to 11 with two scoreless frames for his first win.

The Cougars now travel to Appleton, Wisconsin for a short three-game road trip with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Jonathan Martinez (8-5, 3.46) begins the road trip for the Cougars while Barrett Astin will throw for the Timer Rattlers. First pitch from Fox Cities Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
