Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The season's penultimate home game ended like so many others before it, with a crooked number in the error column and runners left on base. Spokane scored twice in the first but Salem-Keizer rattled off five unanswered runs as the Volcanoes defeated the Indians 5-2 in front of 4,967 fans at Avista Stadium for Breast Cancer Awareness Night & Pre-Game Pitch for the Cure presented by Mike's Hard Lemonade, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, and KXLY Newsradio 920.

The Indians used their speed to manufacture runs in the first, scoring once as a double steal by Christopher Garia and Jake Skole allowed Garia to score on an errant throw from Volcanoes catcher Dashenko Ricardo. Skole advanced to third on the play and then came home on an RBI groundout from Royce Bolinger.

Bolinger finished the game 3-4 to raise his average to .300 while Garia's first inning double was the only other hit allowed by Salem-Keizer's staunch pitching staff.

Starter Eric Brooks went four solid frames, striking out four and walking just one. Richard Alvarez continued his remarkable season in relief with a trio of punch outs in two scoreless frames, lowering his ERA to 2.64 in the process.

Before tonight's game, the Indians hosted the seventh annual Pitch for the Cure breast cancer walk to raise money for the Eastern Washington Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Jerseys worn by Indians players tonight will be available in an online auction starting Tuesday at spokaneindians.com.
