Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Yakima Bears, 6-3, Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.

All three runs in the eighth scored with no outs, with third baseman Patrick Kivlehan getting the rally started on a leadoff walk. Four singles followed to plate two runs, and Mike Faulkner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the third run of the inning, giving the Sox a 6-3 lead that they would hold in the ninth.

Steven Ewing pitched well in his six innings of work, allowing just two runs on four hits and three walks. The only blemish on his outing came in the top of the second when the Bears scored two runs on a walk and back-to-back doubles.

The Frogs were quiet until the fifth inning when Taylor Ard sent a 3-0 pitch over the left-field wall for a three-run homer to put the Sox ahead, 3-2. The longball was Ard's 11th of the season to tie teammate Kivlehan for the team lead and put himself in a three-way tie for the league lead.

In the top of the seventh, Yakima outfielder Mike Lang went deep for the second straight night to tie the game at 3-3.

After the big eighth inning by the Sox, reliever Grady Wood (3-1) continued to pitch in the ninth to finish the game and record the win.

The AquaSox (15-17, 43-27) will face the Bears (14-18, 35-35) Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the regular season, with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (6-2, 4.02 ERA) will get the start for the Frogs, and will be opposed by left-hander Alex Carreras (8-5, 3.25 ERA) of Yakima.
