Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox (16-17, 44-27) finished strong in their final home game of the regular season, defeating the Yakima Bears (14-19, 35-36) by a score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Sox starter Dylan Unsworth (7-2) tossed a two-hitter in seven innings of work, allowing just two runs. The South Africa native has now pitched seven or more innings in five of his 14 starts. The only damage against the right-hander came in the third inning on a two-run homer by Yogey Perez-Ramos.
The Sox cut the Bears lead in half in the fourth inning, scoring one run on a line-drive single by Taylor Ard that plated Ketel Marte from second base.
The Frogs would rally to take the lead in the sixth when Yakima made their first pitching change of the game. Brock Hebert started the inning with a leadoff walk, and Patrick Kivlehan advanced Hebert to third base on his second double of the day. Marcus Littlewood would give the Sox a 3-2 lead by plating both runners on a single to right field.
Brock Hebert started another rally in the eighth with a leadoff walk, and would reach third base with consecutive steals. After Kivlehan reached on a walk to put runners on the corners, Yakima's pitcher misfired a pickoff attempt at first to allow Hebert to score and advance Kivlehan to second. The Sox kept the game in motion, with Kivlehan stealing third base and scoring on a groundout to give Everett a comfortable 5-2 lead that they would hold in the ninth.
The AquaSox have an off day Monday and will travel to Boise to face the Hawks for a five-game series to wrap up the regular season. Left-hander Scott DeCecco (2-3, 5.23 ERA) will get the start for the Frogs in the first game Tuesday.
The Sox return home Tuesday, Sept. 4 to take on the winner of the West Division in the first round of the playoffs.
