Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Playing their third match in a one-week span, the Portland Timbers will travel to face the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. (Pacific). Saturday's match will feature a live broadcast on PDX TV (KPDX) with local radio broadcasts on KUFO 970AM and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
The Timbers (11-12-8, 41pts) are coming off an away win in their most recent fixture, defeating C.D. Dragon 2-1 in San Salvador, El, Salvador, during 2016-17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League play on Sept. 27. Forward Fanendo Adi opened the scoring for Portland, recording his 17th goal in all competitions this season, while midfielder Darlington Nagbe scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute of play.
Heading into Saturday's contest, the Timbers, who have won three of their last four matches across all competitions, have produced an 8-1-3 regular-season record during the month of October, dating back to the 2013 season, including a 5-0-1 away record during that stretch.
Saturday's match marks the second regular-season meeting between the two teams this season, with Portland and Colorado scheduled to face each other at Providence Park on Sunday, Oct. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. (Pacific). In the previous contest between the two teams on July 4, Portland and Colorado battled to a scoreless draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, as the Timbers extended their MLS unbeaten streak to six games and recorded their second shutout over a four-game stretch.
Going into Saturday's fixture, the Timbers are currently the only team in MLS with two or more players who have recorded 13 or more goals in league play this season after midfielder Diego Valeri tallied in the team's most recent league fixture against the Houston Dynamo on Sept. 24. Scoring in two of the last three league games for Portland, Adi ranks tied for the fourth-most goals scored in MLS this season (15).
Colorado (12-5-12, 48pts) heads into Saturday's match with one win in its last five league matches, most recently playing Vancouver Whitecaps FC to a 3-3 draw at BC Place on Sept. 24. At home, Colorado has produced a 9-0-5 record in 14 games played at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, including a 1-0-3 record in its last four home matches. Midfielder Shkelzen Gashi leads the team in goals (7), while ranking tied for the most assists on the team (4).
Following Saturday's fixture, Portland will return to league play on Sunday, Oct. 16, following a FIFA international window, taking on the Colorado Rapids at Providence Park at 2 p.m. (Pacific).
