Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Cristian Techera has announced himself to the CONCACAF region. On Wednesday night at BC Place, the 5-foot-2 Uruguayan tallied two goals and two assists in Vancouver's 4-1 win over Central FC. That gives "The Bug," or "El Bicho," five goals in three CONCACAF Champions League appearances this season, which is tied with highly-rated Mexican international Hirving Lozano for the top spot in the CCL Golden Boot race.

"I thought he was excellent in his quality of the ball," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson, who revealed that Techera has been dealing with a groin issue. "We know he's a little architect when he has the ball, drops his shoulder and I thought if we moved the ball very quickly we'd be able to cause them problems with our fullbacks pushing high."

"He got into some great positions and obviously he managed to score two good goals, one with a penalty," Robinson added. "But his overall play, his work rate, was spot on."
