September 29, 2016 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Chicago Fire FC News Release
NEW YORK - The Mexican National Team, along with New Zealand and Panama, announced Thursday their rosters ahead of the upcoming 2016 Mexican National Team U.S. Tour matches. El Tricolor will face New Zealand at Nashville's Nissan Stadium on Saturday, October 8 (5 p.m. CT), and then will travel to Toyota Park, the home of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire to battle their CONCACAF rival Panama on Tuesday, October 11 (8:30 p.m. CT). Both matches will serve as an important tune-up for Mexico Head Coach Juan Carlos Osorio, who will look to prepare his squad for November World Cup qualifying contests.
The stellar list of Mexican players includes LA Galaxy's top scorer this season Giovani dos Santos, who has recorded 14 goals and 12 assists in MLS, both among the highest in the league, making him one of just two players to record double-digit goals and assists this year in MLS. Also on the list are Frankfurt striker Marco Fabián, who is currently enjoying a hot streak having produced two goals and two assists in the last three league games, and Villarreal winger Jonathan dos Santos, who has been key to his team's 2016-17 UEFA Europa League participation snatching one goal and one assist so far.
New Zealand's roster boasts stars such as West Ham United defender and national team captain Winston Reid, Portland Timbers starting goalkeeper Jake Gleeson, and one of the All White's top goalscorers, Leeds United striker Chris Wood.
Panama's roster is highlighted by New York City FC forward Tony Taylor's first ever call up with Los Canaleros and national team veteran and Toronto FC midfielder Armando Cooper. The list also features six players from Panamanian giant î=81rabe Unido, including experienced winger Amî - lcar Henrî - quez, who joins the squad after eliminating Liga MX side Monterrey in 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League to advance to quarter finals.
