San Jose Earthquakes News Release
MONTREAL, Quebec. - The San Jose Earthquakes fell 3-1 to the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo Wednesday night. After going down 2-0 in the first half, Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski found the back of the net in the second before Montreal concluded the scoring in the final minutes of game.
The Montreal Impact took the lead in the 22nd minute. Matteo Mancosu shot at the Earthquakes' goal but goalkeeper David Bingham made the save. Dominic Oduro found the rebound and sent the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
10 minutes later the home side doubled their lead when Ignacio Piatti finished Mancosu's central pass. Piatti received the ball by the penalty area and shot it hard and low. The ball once again found the bottom left corner.
The Quakes came close to scoring in the 35th minute when Wondolowski took a free kick from outside the area. The forward drilled the ball towards the bottom corner, but it took a deflection off of the Montreal defense and it just narrowly missed the goal.
The Quakes entered the second half searching for a goal, which Wondolowski found in the 62nd minute. His 11th of the season, Wondolowski found the rebound from Darwin Ceren's shot that was saved by Montreal keeper Evan Bush, and passed it into the goal.
