HAMILTON - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats used all six of their picks in the 2014 CFL Draft on defensive players, adding two linebackers and four defensive linemen.
The Ticats made their first move of the day by dealing the 11th and 17th overall selections to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the 8th pick.
Armed with back-to-back selections in the first round, the Ticats picked linebacker Beau Landry at 8 and defensive lineman Evan Gill at 9.
Landry, a two-time OUA first-team All-Star and CIS All-Canadian, spent four seasons at Western, registering 130.5 defensive tackles, six quarterback sacks, four interceptions and five forced fumbles.
Gill recorded 83 defensive tackles and 7.5 quarterback sacks in three seasons at Manitoba, earning a spot on the Canada West All-Star team in 2013. He entered the Draft as the CFL Scouting Bureau's sixth-ranked player.
The Black and Gold then used four late round selections on linebacker Christopher Johnson (44th), and defensive linemen Mathieu Girard (52nd), Stephen Mawa (53rd) and Martin Pesek (62nd).
Johnson spent four seasons at Toronto, making 91 tackles, five quarterback sacks, nine tackles for a loss and one interception.
Girard was named a RESQ All-Star with Montreal in 2013 after making 22.5 tackles, seven quarterback sacks, nine tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.
Mawa played one season at UBC after transferring from Santa Rose Junior College, registering 19 tackles, four tackles for a loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks.
Pesek recorded 31.5 defensive tackles, nine quarterbacks sacks and nine tackles for losses at Acadia last season.
