Norfolk Tides News Release
Troy Patton gave the Tides 4.0 innings of emergency relief Thursday and led the Norfolk Tides past the Syracuse Chiefs 4-1 in front of 6,287 fans at Harbor Park.
Filling in for starting pitcher Chris George, who left the game with two outs in the third inning, Patton shut down the visitor's offense. The lefty allowed just four hits during his time on the mound, with two of those hits coming consecutively in the seventh inning just prior to his exit from the game. Patton (1-0, 4.15) struck out three batters and walked two others.
Brendan Harris got the Tides on the board in the home half of the third inning with a solo shot to lead off the frame. Consecutive singles by John Hester and Blake Davis set up Ryan Adams's run-scoring fielder' choice that gave the home team the lead for good. Adams was not awarded an RBI on the play as Hester scored due to a throwing error by second baseman Jhonatan Solano who was trying to turn a double play.
Adams, who is hitting a team-best .305 on the season, added a leadoff double in both the sixth and eighth innings for the Tides. The second baseman came around to score on both occasions. Nolan Reimold knocked him in with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning while Josh Bell plated him with an RBI single in the eighth.
Chris George allowed just one run on three hits prior to his exit after 2.2 innings of work.
Yunesky Maya (1-3, 3.57) pitched effectively in a losing effort. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while lasting through 7.1 innings. He was replaced by Jeff Mandel prior to Josh Bell's RBI single in the eighth inning, a run that was charged to Maya.
The Tides will travel to Lehigh Valley to start a four-game series Friday night. LH Michael Ballard (2-3, 3.90) will try to get the road trip off to a good start opposite RH Brian Bass (1-2, 7.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
