LOUISVILLE BATS (19-14) at ROCHESTER RED WINGS (14-17)

12:05 p.m., THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2011, FRONTIER FIELD

GAME 32

*LAST TIME OUT*

ALONSO & REINEKE LEAD BATS PAST RED WINGS, 7-3-Louisville first baseman Yonder Alonso went 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI and Bats starter Chad Reineke (4-1) pitched 6.0 strong innings, as Louisville defeated Rochester 7-3, Wednesday night at Frontier Field. Starter Eric Hacker (1-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three in 6.2 innings of work. Chase Lambin had two of the Red Wings seven hits. With a win today Rochester will finish the eight-game homestand with a 5-3 record.

*WHAT'S ON DECK*

HOME, SWEET, HOME-The Red Wings conclude their eight-game homestand today with the final game of a four-game series vs. Louisville. Rochester will play Louisville today before hitting the road for an eight-game road trip to Charlotte and Gwinnett starting Friday.

PACK YOUR BAGS-The Red Wings will hit the road for their first extended road trip (eight-games) of the season on Friday when they travel to Charlotte and Gwinnett. Rochester will play a four-game series in Charlotte May 13-16 before travel to Gwinnett for a four-game set May 17-20. The Red Wings have opened the 2011 season playing 23 of their first 35 games at Frontier Field.

*WHAT'S NEWS*

S(WING)ING WHEN IT COUNTS-The Red Wings offense has struggled to get the clutch hit the last eight games batting .227 (17-for-75) with runners in scoring position. Rochester has a 4-4 record in these eight games but the difference in RISP batting averages in the wins and losses are considerable. In the four wins the Red Wings are batting .286 (14-for-49) with runners in scoring position while batting just .115 (3-for-26) with runners in scoring position in the four losses.

LEFT-A-WAY-The Red Wings enter today's game having won four of their last five games vs. left-handed starters (4-4 record vs. left-handed starters this season). The Red Wings have a 154-179 (.462) record vs. left-handed starters since 2003 when they changed affiliations to the Minnesota Twins. Rochester has had only three winning records vs. left-handed starters since 1997 (27-22 in 2008, 23-17 in 2005 and 23-9 in 1997).

A HIT "SERIES"-With a win today the Red Wings would clinch their first series win of the 2011 season. It would also match the number of times Rochester won a four-game series at Frontier Field last season (1-5-9 record.....the only four-game series win at Frontier Field last season was August 10-12 when the Red Wings took 3 of 4 vs. Gwinnett.

WAS DORTHY WRONG?-The Red Wings have gotten off to a slow start at Frontier Field this season holding an 9-12 record at 1 Morrie Silver Way (of those eight wins five are walk-off wins). The Red Wings struggled at Frontier Field last season compiling a 26-46 record (their worst home record since moving into Frontier Field in 1997).

HOT WING-Outfielder Brian Dinkelman has a nine-game hitting streak, batting .350 (14-for-40) with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored. Dinkelman has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 home games batting .318 (21-for-66).

START YOUR ENGINES-The Red Wings offense has done a nice job at the beginning of games this season outscoring their opponents 51-42 in the first three innings. It's the back end of the game that Rochester has really struggled being outscored 67-32 from the sixth inning on.

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE-Outfielder/infielder Brian Dinkelman is the only Red Wings player that has played in every game this season (in the lineup today). Since 1988, only five players have played 135 or more games in a season (Danny Clyburn 137 games in 1997, Garrett Jones 140 in 2006 and 138 in 2008, Denard Span 139 games in 2007, Jason Pridie 138 games in 2008, and Brian Dinkelman 137 games in 2010).

YOU HAVE TO EARN IT!-The Red Wings pitching staff has allowed the fewest base on balls (90) in the International League so far this season. (Syracuse is 2nd with 100). Rochester has led the International League in fewest walks allowed just twice (2007 331 walks, 1995 398 walks) since 1992.

MORE WING TIPS

IN THE RED-Rochester has spent just one day (April 9 2-1 record) above .500 since June 3, 2009 (26-25 record). In fact, Rochester has only spent 10 days at the .500 mark from June 4, 2009 through last night's game (265 games). Prior to the 2009 season, Rochester spent 2+ seasons above .500 (364 consecutive games) from June 18, 2005 through April 5, 2008).

ROAD KILL-The Red Wings are off to a 5-5 start away from Frontier Field. Rochester is looking to finish the 2011 season with just its 3rd winning road record since 1991 (2006 finished with a 37-35 road record and 1993 finished with a 37-34 record away from Silver Stadium). Rochester had a 23-49 road record (worst road record in IL) in 2010.
