Carolina Mudcats News Release
ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats are proud to announce that position player Jeremie Tice and pitcher Shawn Armstrong were named to the 2012 Carolina League All-Star team.
The game will feature All-Stars from the Carolina League against the best from the California League at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, N.C., on June 19. The Carolina League All-Star team is selected by a vote of league managers, general managers and media.
Tice will be the designated hitter for Carolina League team. The Dacula, Ga., native enters Monday leading the CL in RBI with 45, is tied for the lead in home runs with 11, ranks in the top ten of the league for batting average (.300) and sits atop the league for slugging percentage (.627). Tice leads the Cleveland Indians' system in RBI and slugging percentage. He, also, ranks third in home runs among Indians' farm hands.
Armstrong, a product of East Carolina University, boasts a stellar summer. He enters the week with an ERA of 1.16. The right-hander from New Bern, N.C., has allowed only four runs over 31 innings. Opponents have just 17 hits against Armstrong this year, and he owns 39 strikeouts to 15 walks. Armstrong did not allow a run through his first seven appearances. Even more impressive, opponents only managed to bring one across home plate during a stretch of 23 innings against him.
The Mudcats begin a seven-day excursion through the commonwealth of Virginia on Monday. The team opens a three-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats at 7:05 p.m. Carolina returns home to host Wilmington and Frederick on June 21.
