Carolina Mudcats (30-33) vs Lynchburg Hillcats (33-30)
NEWS & NOTES:
- About Last Night - Carolina grounded the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3-1. Mike Rayl picked up his fourth win by holding the Pelicans to one run over five innings. Anthony Gallas and Ronny Rodriguez both homered in the win.
- Hey Now, You're An All-Star - The Mudcats proudly announced today that Jeremie Tice and Shawn Armstrong were named to the Carolina League All-Star roster. Tice sits atop the league in home runs (11) and RBI (45). Armstrong has allowed only four runs over 31 innings since his mid-April promotion.
- Here He Goes Again - Center fielder Tyler Holt has put together another five-game hitting streak thanks to a first inning single Sunday. Holt owns the team's longest streak (10 games). He has hit in seven straight on two different occasions this year.
- Getting Back to Form - Reliever Tyler Sturdevant has looked dominant for the Mudcats since coming off the disabled list. The right-hander was shut down in spring training with shoulder inflammation. Sturdevant has dealt four scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
- Stretch Run - Carolina begins the final week of the first half with a trip to Lynchburg. The Mudcats will finish with four games in Salem. The team has had success against the Hillcats, leading the season series 6-2. However, the Red Sox have been a tough out, winning six of seven against the Mudcats. Salem swept Carolina in a three-game series at LewisGale Field.
