Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 11, 2012) - A consistent drizzle couldn't slow down the Dash bats as Winston-Salem rocked Potomac, tying a season high with 15 runs and piling on 13 hits in a 15-1 win Monday night. Brady Shoemaker tied a career high with 6 RBI as the Dash's magic number to clinch the Southern Division is now at four games.
Winston-Salem (39-24) put the hammer down in the second inning, scoring eight runs and sending 11 men to the plate for a 9-0 lead. Cyle Hankard went 2-for-2 in the frame, leading off with a single and then smashing a two-run home run his second time up. Carolina League All-Star Shoemaker and Carolina League Batter of the Week Trayce Thompson each drove in two runs. The eight runs tied a season-high set by Winston on May 10 for the most runs scored in an inning.
Shoemaker finished 2-for-5 and drove in six runs, including a two-run home run in the fifth inning. The long ball was Shoemaker's 11th of the season and pushed him into a tie for the most in the league. His final RBI came in the eighth when he was walked with the bases loaded to give the Dash a 15-1 advantage. No other Dash player has plated six runs in a single game this season.
Winston scored at least one run in the first five innings. Shoemaker hit a fly ball to push Marcus Semien across in the first for a 1-0 lead. Carlos Sanchez and Hankard drove in a run in the third and fourth respectively before Shoemaker's two-run bomb in the fifth put the Dash in front 13-1.
Potomac (29-35) went down valiantly in the ninth. With two on and two out Zach Walters drilled a ball over the right field wall to make it a 15-4 game. However, the Nationals left 11 men on base and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
The Dash are a perfect 5-0 this season against the Nationals at home. Winston is 7-2 overall against Potomac and 25-10 against the Northern Division.
The Dash go for the series win Tuesday night when right-hander Jake Petricka (4-4, 5.29 ERA) takes the mound. Potomac counters with right-hander Adam Olbrychowski (2-5, 5.83 ERA).
Winston-Salem hosts the 2012 California-Carolina League All-Star Game Tuesday, June 19. For tickets and more information call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
