WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 11, 2012) - Dash outfielder Trayce Thompson earned the Carolina League's Batter of the Week honor for his efforts June 4-10, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly honor in Thompson's minor league career.
In seven games this week, Thompson led the Carolina League with 10 runs batted in and placed second with a .400 (10-for-25) batting average. The former second-round pick in 2010 posted six extra-base hits and scored five times.
Thompson's big game came during the nightcap of a de facto doubleheader Friday night against Wilmington. Thompson finished a single short of the cycle and drove in four runs during the Dash's 11-3 victory over the Blue Rocks.
On the season, Thompson is third in the Carolina League with 43 RBI and tied for eighth with eight home runs. The Ladera Ranch, Calif., native is also tied for second with 30 extra-base hits.
This is the Dash's second weekly honor of the season. Fellow outfielder Brady Shoemaker was the CL's Batter of the week for games played from May 7-14.
Thompson and the Dash boast the league's best record at 38-24. Winston-Salem's magic number to clinch a first half Southern Division championship sits at five with seven games remaining. The Dash open up a three-game series against the Potomac Nationals Monday night at 7 at BB&T Ballpark.
