Frederick Keys News Release

Keys LF Bobby Stevens raced all the way from second base to home on a Mike Mosby sacrifice bunt to plate the game's lone run in the 13th inning as the Keys captured a thrilling maration in Myrtle Beach Monday 1-0.

Stevens led off the 13th inning with the only extra base hit of the evening. He doubled over the head of Pelicans left fielder Jared Hoying to get into scoring position to start the inning. Then Mosby bunted the ball up the first base line. C Vinny DiFazio raced 20-feet up the line to play it and fell forward pushing a throw to get Mosby at first base. With home unoccupied, Stevens made his mad dash. He slid in safely going through DiFazio who was racing back to the plate as a throw from first base went whizzing to the back stop.

The run was the Keys first in a drought of 27 consecutive scoreless innings.

Frederick had the chance to win because of a stellar night from their pitching staff. It started with the Berry boys (of no relation).

LHP Tim Berry, making his first league start, battled his way through six scoreless innings, allowing seven hits. He gave way to reliever Ryan Berry who allowed only two hits in three scoreless frames. Berry was in trouble in the ninth inning though after a throwing error by SS Garabez Rosa and a single to right field. With runners at the corners and one down he got a pop up in the infield and a groundout to second base to keep the game alive.

RHP David Walters (1-4) had to negotiate a similar predicament. In the 12th inning the bases were loaded and one down. C Vinny Difazio fanned on a 3-2 pitch and 1B Brett Nicholas grounded out to end the threat. RHP Clay Schrader earned his third save with a 1-2-3 13th inning.

The Keys are right back at it Tuesday, June 12th at 7:05 p.m. with LHP Trent Howard looking to build on tonight's Frederick effort. Coverage begins with the Keys On-Deck Show 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
