York Revolution News Release
Corey Thurman tossed scoreless ball for the third consecutive start and the York Revolution earned a 6-1 victory against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday night in front of 5,857 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Revs conclude a stretch of seven consecutive road games with a 4-3 mark moving back into sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division. The season series between the two rivals concludes in York on Thursday night with the winner claiming the Community Cup for 2011.
Thurman went 6.1 shutout frames extending his scoreless streak to 18.1 consecutive innings. He is now within reach of his own club record of 24.0 consecutive scoreless innings established in June, 2008.
The Revs plated a first inning run on three singles. Scott Grimes led off the game with a base hit to right, moved to third on a single by Ramon Castro, and scored on an RBI single to center by Jose Herrera
James Shanks cracked a solo homerun to right field in the fourth, his tenth of the season, as the lead grew to 2-0.
Grimes then led off the fifth with a double to deep left, moved to third on a fly out by Bryant Nelson, and scored on a sac fly to right by Castro.
Lancaster broke up the shutout with an unearned run in the seventh when Adam Calderone scored on a throwing error on an attempted double play. Reliever Ronnie Morales retired Wayne Lydon on a foul pop-up with a runner at second to end the inning, however, and R.J. Rodriguez stranded two runners in a scoreless eighth, receiving help from Vince Harrison who made a spectacular diving play on a sharp grounder at third to end the inning.
The Revs blew it open with three runs in the ninth. Chris Walker drew a bases loaded walk to push the first run across, and Castro followed with a two-run double to left-center.
Michael Nix closed it out with a scoreless ninth inning.
York 's Matt DeSalvo (6-3, 3.54) will face Lancaster's Cesar Carrillo (3-10, 7.16) in the final "War of the Roses" series matchup of the regular season on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. York trails the series 9-8, but with a win on Thursday would finish tied with the Barnstormers, retaining the Cup after last season's 16-4 series win. The Revs are attempting to become the first team in series history to win the Cup in back-to-back seasons.
