Blue Crabs Top Patriots in Extra Innings

Bridgewater, NJ- A sacrifice fly by Christian Lopez in the top of the 11th inning put Southern Maryland on top 2-1 over the Somerset Patriots before 5,178 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.

Brandon Chaves scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead.

The Blue Crabs scored in the top of the fourth inning after Casey Benjamin drove an RBI double down to left field to bring home Brian Barton for a 1-1 tie.

Blue Crabs reliever Steve Palazzolo (8-2) got the win after tossing a scoreless 10th inning. Patriots reliever Ron Villone (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing the go ahead run during his 1.1 innings of work. Jim Ed Warden picked up his 24th save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on Friday night when the Patriots take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 7:05 pm.
