Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 18, 2011) - After a long battle of the bullpens on Thursday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard the Bridgeport Bluefish (20-12, 52-43) suffered a series loss against the Camden Riversharks (19-12, 42-52). Camden took down Bridgeport 7-5 in eleven innings.
Raymar Diaz lasted four-and-one-third innings and surrendered five runs for the home team. The Bluefish starter did not factor in the decision. Five Bluefish relievers combined to throw five-and-two-thirds scoreless frames before Matt Smith (3-7) entered the contest. The southpaw gave up two runs in the eleventh to take the loss.
Federico Baez gave up four runs in the first before the bullpen tossed ten innings and allowed one run. Sean Jarrett (1-0) picked up the win as he threw two scoreless while Jay Marshall notched his sixth save of the season.
After the Riversharks scored the first run of the contest, the Bluefish hit three homers in the bottom of the frame to grab a 4-1 lead. Andres Perez and Steve Moss drove solo shots to leftcenter with one out. After Bankston walked, and a second out had been recorded, Prentice Redman sent a two-run shot to left.
Camden would fight back though by scoring in each of the next two frames. In the second, Juan Francia singled and stole two bases before Ruddy Yan drove in Francia from third. In the next inning, Willis Otanez led off with a solo shot to left to cut the deficit to one.
Otanez continued his assault on Bluefish pitching in the fifth. He smacked a second homer of the night with one out. The shot to left tied the game at four. Danny Richar doubled and Alvin Colina followed with a double to give the Riversharks a brief lead.
Bridgeport tied the contest in the bottom of the fifth. Adam Greenberg led off with a double and moved to third on a long fly out to center. After a second out had been recorded, Wes Bankston picked up a base hit to push Greenberg home.
Camden, though, would get the final runs of the night in extra frames. The rally started with two batters out. Ruddy Yan singled to center and Lloyd Turner doubled. On the extra-base hit, Steve Moss left the contest due to an undisclosed injury. Noah Hall slapped a single to right following the Turner at-bat to allow the infielder to score the final run of the night.
