Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 18, 2011) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 9-1 in a rain-shortened affair on Thursday night at Bethpage Ballpark to complete a three-game sweep.
The Road Warriors crossed home first on Victor Gutierrez' double play ball off Ducks' starter Mark Diapoules in the second inning. However, the Ducks tied it at one in the bottom frame on Kraig Binick's run-scoring single to left off Road Warriors' starter Kelvin Villa.
The bats came alive in the third, as the Quack Attack plated six runs. John Rodriguez's two-run home run, Matt Esquivel's RBI double, a run-scoring single by Freddie Thon, and a two-run base hit by Kennard Jones put the Ducks ahead 7-1. Two more runs came across in the fifth on a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Javier Colina and a RBI double by Rodriguez.
The skies eventually opened up in the bottom of the sixth inning, and after a rain delay, the game was called due to unplayable field conditions.
Diapoules (7-1) was strong on the mound and earned the win, tossing six innings of one run ball, allowing just four hits while striking out two. Villa (4-8) took the loss after just two and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits.
Rodriguez led the Flock with three hits and three RBI.
