York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-1 on a rainy Monday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium in the rubber game of the series making it back-to-back series victories for the Revs. York was led by a great outing from starter Corey Thurman and the four relievers who followed him. The Revs offense used a combination of singles and long balls to provide more than enough run support. After an off-day, York's homestand will continue when the Revs host the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
The Revolution got things started in the bottom of the second inning when 1B Chris Nowak scored on a single up the middle by RF Carlos Guzman in his first at-bat at Sovereign Bank Stadium, picking up his first RBI with the team and giving York an early 1-0 advantage.
York played small ball in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead over the Blue Crabs. C Salvador Paniagua led off the inning with a single and was followed by two bunt singles from CF Scott Grimes and LF Chris Walker. 2B Ramon Castro then knocked an infield single to bring in Paniagua. A sacrifice fly from DH Jose Herrera and a bloop single from Nowak brought in the final two runs of the inning.
The Revs put a couple of more runs on the board in fifth when Herrera nailed a two run shot over the right field wall making it a 6-0 game in favor of York.
York added one more in the bottom of the seventh inning with Castro hitting a towering homerun just inside the left field foul pole giving the Revs a 7-0 lead. It was Castro's 100th home run of his pro career.
The Blue Crabs finally got a run across the plate in the eighth inning as CF Jeremy Owens smacked an RBI single to left making it a 7-1 game, but reliever Ricardo Gomez was able to get out of a bases loaded jam to end the inning.
Thurman (9-3) earned the win pitching five shutout innings and scattering seven hits, all singles, while striking out five.
The Revs have now won five of their last seven overall, and have also won five of their last six against Southern Maryland, victorious in back-to-back series against the Crabs for the first time in club history.
Wednesday's opener against the Barnstormers features a DownTown 2010 Atlantic League Championship Bobblehead giveaway, presented by Turkey Hill and Downtown Inc. to the first 1,500 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Fans who show a bottle cap from any Turkey Hill beverage receive FREE admission; caps must be redeemed at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office, based on availability. Tickets are also available at YorkRevolution.com and (717) 801-HITS.
Notes: Monday's win was the Revs' 298th in franchise victory. Revs starters have gone 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA over the last seven games pitching at least five innings in each of them. Paniagua extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the third. Thurman earned his first career win against Southern Maryland in 14 career starts, improving to 1-7 lifetime against the Crabs (is 33-16 in his career against the rest of the league). Nowak is now on a six-game hitting streak.
