Bluefish Complete Sweep of Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

The Bluefish got on the board first in the top of the second after Luis Lopez scored on an RBI groundout by Michael Moras.

Bridgeport tacked on another run in the third on a solo homerun by Andres Perez (9) for the 2-0 lead.

The Bluefish continued to add to their lead the following inning after Angel Chavez drove an RBI single to center to bring home Danny Putnam for the 3-0 advantage.

Somerset broke up the perfect game and shutout in the bottom of the sixth after Norris Hopper doubled and scored on an RBI base hit by Fernando Cortez to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Bluefish scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Wes Bankston for the 4-1 final.

Bridgeport starter Wardell Starling (1-0) got the win after allowing only a run on two hits in seven innings pitched. Patriots starter Chris Oxspring (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings. Chris Rivera picked up his first save of the season after shutting down Somerset in the ninth.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday night when the Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks at 7:05 pm.
