
Bluefish Add Redman and Silva

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 1, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of outfielder Prentice Redman and pitcher Ray Silva. Redman returns to the Bluefish after beginning the season in the Park City, while Silva makes his Bridgeport debut.
"Both players will be solid contributors during the second half of the season," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "Prentice was impressive during his first stint with us and we are excited to have his bat back in the lineup. We also look forward to adding Ray's arm to our pitching staff."
Redman returns to the Bluefish during his first season in the Atlantic League and 13th of professional baseball. The outfielder began the year in the Park City and collected three hits, including two doubles and two RBI in 10 at-bats. He then spent time with Independent Kansas City of the American Association. In 19 games, the former Major Leaguer batted .282 with three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. The 31-year-old is the brother of Tike Redman, who has spent six seasons in the big leagues and was a member of the Bluefish last year. Prentice has made one stop at the Major League level as a member of the New York Mets in 2003. In 15 games, he recorded three hits, including one home run in 24 at-bats. The slugger posted his best season as a professional in 2008 when he split time between Double-A West Tennessee and Triple-A Tacoma of the Mariners organization. In 454 combined at-bats, he batted .295 with 76 RBI and set career-highs in home runs (25), runs scored (97) and walks (61). In 1,339 career minor league games, Redman has a .279 batting average with 322 doubles, 149 home runs, 681 RBI, 777 runs scored and 203 stolen bases.
Silva makes his Atlantic League debut with Bridgeport in 2011. He joins the 'Fish from El Paso of the American Association where he posted a 5.72 ERA and struck out 21 batters in 28.1 innings through 25 relief appearances. The righthander pitched for Edinburg of the United League from 2009-2010. Last year, he posted his best season as a professional, finishing 2-2 with 25 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA in 30 games out of the 'pen. The 27-year-old started his professional career in 2007 with St. Louis Cardinals Rookie League affiliate Johnson City of the Appalachian League. There, Silva went 2-1 and fanned 16 with a save and a 6.14 ERA in 21 games of relief. Ray was signed as an undrafted free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2007 out of University of Texas - Pan American.
