Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts rounded out their brief three game home stand on a winning note with a 4-1 victory over the River City Rascals.
The ThunderBolts got all the offense they needed in the bottom half of the first inning. Second baseman Jerome McCoy reached first when he flicked a single to right. Center fielder Scott Balster pushed McCoy to second with a sacrifice bunt. McCoy crossed the plate on a single by right fielder Nick Johnson. With two out in the inning, third baseman Matt Ferrara poked an infield single to put two men on base. First baseman Rich Daly crushed a homer to right, his second in two nights. Daly's three-run shot upped the Windy City lead to 4-0.
Mike Renery was solid for the ThunderBolts in his fourth start of the season. Renery held the Rascals hitless until the fourth and allowed a total of two hits over six innings. Lefty Justin Roelle surrendered a run in his first inning of relief, but that was all the Rascals could muster.
With his masterful performance, Renery earned the win and evened his record at 2-2. Roelle gave way to closer Matt Hines after two innings of one-run ball. Hines earned the save by tossing a scoreless ninth inning. The save was Hines' second of the season. Starter Brian Keating took the loss for the Rascals in his seven inning effort. Keating allowed just those four runs in the first inning and seven total hits.
Windy City takes to the road for a three game set against the Evansville Otters beginning on Tuesday night. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on WJOB 1230AM. The ThunderBolts will return to Hawkinson Ford Field on Friday to take on the Ohio Valley Redcoats at 7:05pm.
