
Grizzlies avoid sweep in Kalamazoo

The Gateway Grizzlies got another fine start from Brandon Smith and defeated the Kalamazoo Kings 7-4 Monday night in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Grizzlies avoided the sweep and are now 7-11. The Kings are 12-6.
Brandon Smith (4-0) fired seven innings for the Grizzlies giving up just two runs on seven hits. He struck out four. He has now won all four of his starts this season.
The Grizzlies were paced by Mike Breyman. Breyman was 1-3 and drove in three on the night. Todd Oetting had a great night as well. Oetting went 3-5 with a double and a solo home run. He drove in two. He also started and played the entire night in left field for the Grizzlies. Shawn Smarsh and Ben Margalski each added RBIs on then night. Margalski's came on a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies return home for a three-game series with the Ohio Valley Redcoats. The series begins Tuesday with a 7:05 game at GMC Stadium.
