New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 5th, 2009 - The Thunderbirds improved to a 19-15 record with their win over the Austin Toros, Thursday night at Tingley Coliseum.

At halftime the T-birds led by eight but saw that lead diminish when they were outscored 31-22 in the third quarter of play. With one second remaining, officials gave a technical foul to Albuquerque Head Coach John Coffino. The technical put Austin's forward Marcus Williams on the line, who sunk the shot and put the Toros up by one going into the fourth.

18 seconds into the game's final quarter, Thunderbirds' guard Keith McLeod connected with teammate Will Conroy, who would score the go-ahead basket for two. Conroy, who led the T-birds with 37 points, also leads the NBA D-League in scoring with 25.8 points per game.

Leading the Toros to their eleventh loss this season was Eric Dawson with 39 points and nine boards.

Contributing to Albuquerque's first win in seven games against the division leading Austin Toros was Jasper Johnson and Keith McLeod who combined for 33 points, 18 rebounds and 14 assists.

Making his debut with Albuquerque this evening was newly acquired Antonio Meeking. Meeking, a 6-7 forward from Louisiana Tech, added 14 points and grabbed 7 boards in less than twenty minutes of play.

The Toros, who slipped to 25-11, were out rebounded by the T-birds, 52-40.

On March 6th the Thunderbirds will host the Utah Flash, now 19-13, 7pm at Tingley Coliseum.
