Iowa's Demetris Nichols Called Up To New York Knicks

NEW YORK, March 6, 2009 - The New York Knicks today announced that they have signed Demetris Nichols to a 10-day contract. Nichols becomes the 14th player to earn a GATORADE Call-Up during the 2008-09 season and the 132nd overall since the league began play in 2001.

Nichols, a 6-6 forward, has appeared in 11 games for the Iowa Energy this season and averaged 20.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists scoring in double figures in all 11 appearances and seven times notching more than 20 points. Prior to his stint with the Energy, Nichols spent two games with the Chicago Bulls.

Nichols rejoins the Knicks having played with New York in the 2007 NBA Summer League and 2007 preseason after being selected by Portland in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2007 NBA Draft. Following being released by the Knicks prior to the start of the 2007-08 season, Nichols spent 14 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls during which time the Bulls twice assigned him to the Energy. For his career, Nichols has scored 17 points in 16 NBA games.

A four-year contributor at Syracuse, Nichols averaged 10.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 123 career games. During his senior season, Nichols led the Big East in scoring (18.9 ppg).
