Trenton Thunder News Release
Three Thunder pitchers combined to hold the Richmond Flying Squirrels to one run across 10 innings, setting the stage for a walk-off 2-1 victory in front of a crowd of 5,122 on Thursday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Thunder (50-39) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Trey Amburgey delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jorge Saez, who had led off the frame with a single.
Brian Keller went five and one-third scoreless innings as the Thunder starter before turning the ball over to Brody Koerner, who kept Richmond (43-45) off the board into the seventh. Brady Lail took over with two out in the eighth and retired the first three batters he faced, but with the Flying Squirrels down to their final out in the ninth, Aramis Garcia homered just inside the left field foul pole to tie the game at 1-1.
Pinch-runner John Riley began the top of the 10th inning at second base as Richmond's extra-inning tiebreaker runner, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by John Polonius. Lail then walked Ali Castillo, but recovered to strike out Matt Lipka before getting C.J. Hinojosa to fly out to center field, stranding the go-ahead run at third.
In the bottom half, tiebreaker runner Devyn Bolasky took third base on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Holder. Trey Amburgey worked Richmond reliever Ryan Halstead for a four-pitch walk, and with Bruce Caldwell at the plate, Halstead uncorked a wild pitch toward the backstop, allowing Bolasky to score the winning run.
The win was the Thunder's seventh in nine extra inning games this season, and also saw Bolasky extend his career-high on-base streak to 16 games with a 2-for-5 performance.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Friday night at 7pm against the Flying Squirrels. LHP Ryan Bollinger (4-3, 5.62) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Taylor Hill (0-3, 3.78) will go for Richmond. The first 1,525 fans ages 14 and up will receive a Brett Gardner bobblehead, presented by Murphy Hearing Services. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
