Thunder Welcomes Joe Dustin, Fisher Back In Net
March 31, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has claimed defenseman Joe Dustin off waivers from the Bakersfield Condors, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today.
Additionally, it was announced that rookie goaltender Glenn Fisher has been re-assigned to the Thunder from Springfield.
"Joe is an offensive-minded defenseman that will fill a need for us on the blueline that we've missed since the injury to Beau Geisler earlier this season," said Cichocki. "He has a big shot from the point and he'll be a big help with his puck-moving and skating ability."
Dustin is expected to make his debut in a Thunder uniform (wearing jersey #26) on Tuesday, April 1 when the Thunder visits the Fresno Falcons at 7:00 p.m. from Save-Mart Center.
Dustin, 28, has scored 27 points (7g-20a) in 58 games with the Bakersfield this season and has tallied 97 points (30g-67a) in 212 career professional games along with 234 penalty minutes with Bakersfield, Louisiana and Charlotte of the ECHL, Oklahoma City of the Central Hockey League, Fayetteville of the SPHL and Rockford of the UHL.
The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman tallied a career-high 41 points (14g-27a) in 64 games with Oklahoma City in 2005-06 and added four assists in seven playoff games that year.
Fisher, 24, appeared in one game with Springfield during his AHL call-up and has a record of 13-19-1 in 36 games with the Thunder this season, posting a 3.29 goals-against-average and .904 save percentage. The Edmonton, Alberta native had two shutouts earlier this season, setting a Thunder record with a shutout streak of 153:48.
Selected in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Oilers, Fisher spent time in 2007 NHL training camp with the Oilers and previously played all four years (2003-07) of his college hockey career at national-power University of Denver (NCAA), helping guide the Pioneers to two straight NCAA national championships in 2004 and 2005.
The Thunder embarks on the regular season's final four-game roadtrip beginning Tuesday, April 1 against the Fresno Falcons, starting at 7:00 p.m. from Save-Mart Center . The game can be heard live on radio at 1420 KSTN and online at http://www.stocktonthunder.com/, courtesy of B2 Networks.
The Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for two consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08. Season tickets for 2008-09 and 2008 Kelly Cup Playoff ticket packages are now on sale and individual ticket information for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced soon.
