Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils had to overcome injuries and obstacles in their attempt at the postseason, but in the end the adversity was too much. With a 5-0 loss to Johnstown, Trenton found itself out of the playoffs for the first time since 2003-2004. But with three games yet to play, the Devils look to come home and thank their fans for their support throughout this season with a big weekend homestand. The Devils stand in sixth place in the North Division with a record of 26-36-7.

FIRST AT FIRST: Chris Poli's first professional goal proved to be a game-winner, when he continued a four-goal rally to give the Devils a 5-3 win against Elmira. Poli later added another goal to cap the scoring. Maxime Ouellet stopped 34-of-37 shots between the pipes to earn his second win of the season. The Devils went 3-for-8 on the power play as they won for the first time in franchise history at Elmira's First Arena. The win was Trenton's seventh in its last eight road games.

ROYALS RUMBLE: Goals by Eric Castonguay and Matt Cohen sparked a late comeback from a 4-0 deficit, but they were not enough as the Devils fell on the road against Reading by a score of 4-2. Reading goalie John Murray earned the win in net, stopping 27 of Trenton's 29 shots. In addition to Cohen's score, the big defenseman assisted on Castonguay's goal, netting him two points on the night.

CHIEFS CLOSE THE DOOR: The Devils needed a win on the road versus Johnstown in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, the Chiefs skated to a 5-0 win to eliminate Trenton from playoff contention for the first time since 2003-2004. The Devils unleashed 25 shots on Ryan Nie, but the Chiefs' goalie was up to the challenge as he earned his second shutout of the season. Trenton successfully killed three-of-four Johnstown power play opportunities in the contest, but three third period goals by the Chiefs sealed the victory.

QUICK HITS: Eric Castonguay scored for the first time since 2/18 when he got Trenton on the board against Reading on 3/28... The forward also had a four-game point streak (1g, 4a) snapped on 3/30 @ JHN... Matt Cohen picked up his second multi-point night in four games on 3/28 @ REA with 1g, 1a... Joe Rooney has nine points in his last seven games... Trenton is 19-16-2 when wearing white jerseys vs. 7-20-5 in red... The Devils are 14-1-3 when they score four or more goals... The Devils scored four unanswered goals in the third period against ELM on 3/26 for their first win at the First Arena.
