BOMBERS NOTES

PLAYOFF BOUND BOMBERS: The Dayton Bombers have clinched a berth in the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs! The Bombers advanced to their second consecutive post-season appearance following the result of last night's Trenton/Johnstown game. The Bombers will face the Johnstown Chiefs in the best-of-three North Division Quarterfinals; the winner will play the top-seeded Cincinnati Cyclones in the North Division Semifinals.

LET'S GET IT STARTED: Game 1 of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be played on Sunday, April 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Nutter Center. The Bombers and Chiefs move to Johnstown for Game 2 on Tuesday, April 8. Game 3, if necessary, is TBD, based on the final division standings.

ELMIRA, TAKE TWO: Facing the Elmira Jackals for the second straight night, the Bombers were defeated 3-1 on Sunday. Brad Bonello scored a power play goal, his 17th goal of the season, from Mike Berry and Ryan Smyth in the third. Rejean Beauchemin, making his fifth consecutive start in net for the Bombers, was 31 of 34 on the night. The Bombers killed all 5 Jackals power play opportunities.

LET'S TRY THAT AGAIN: The Bombers opened a weekend series against the Elmira Jackals on Saturday night but fell 7-2. Dayton trailed 4-0 into the third period, but Brad Bonello and Greg Labenski each netted a goal in the third to hold off the shutout. Petr Pohl, Jim Henkemeyer, Scott Kelman and Masahito Nishiwaki all picked up assists in the effort. Rejean Beauchemin went 32-of-39 for the night.

HOW'D HE DO THAT?: The Bombers fired a season-high 51 shots at Wheeling's Curtis Darling on Wednesday night but managed only one goal in regulation, eventually dropping the decision 2-1 in a shootout. The Bombers and Nailers were deadlocked after the first, but Wheeling came out of the locker room and broke the stalemate just 38 seconds into the next period - a lead that would stand until the 16:00 mark of the third period. Despite sending 20 shots Darling's way in the third, the Bombers only netted one goal by Corey LeClair (from Ryan MacGregor and Mike Campaner), forcing the game into overtime. Wheeling took charge in the extra frame, outshooting the Bombers 6-3, but couldn't get the game-winner past Rejean Beauchemin. In the shootout, Petr Pohl was the lone Bomber to net a goal, while Wheeling tallied three to steal the victory.

ON OUR BEST BEHAVIOR: Dayton was whistled for a season-low one penalty in Wednesday's game against Wheeling. The Nailers were penalized three times for six minutes. The Bombers previous low in PIMs was 4 minutes, set on February 15 when Dayton fell to Reading 4-3 in a shootout on the road.

TRUMPING READING: The Bombers defeated the Reading Royals Tuesday night 3-2 at the Nutter Center. Despite taking a 0-0 tie into the locker room after the first period, the Bombers opened the second frame with a Scott Kelman goal from newly acquired forward Petr Pohl. Just over two minutes later Matt Beaudoin netted his 38th goal of the season from Mike Berry and Greg Labenski. Taking a 2-1 lead into the third, Corey LeClair scored his fourth of the year from Berry and Jim Henkemeyer. Goaltender Rejean Beauchemin finished the night with 37 saves on 39 shots to earn the "W".

MOVIN' ON UP: The Bombers currently have three players in the American Hockey League. Making his AHL debut, goaltender Jeremy Duchesne earned his first victory with the Philadelphia Phantoms when they beat Binghamton 5-3 on March 28. Duchesne had 19 saves on 22 shots for the win. Matt Beaudoin, the team's leading scorer, is on his fourth call-up of the season, this time with the Hershey Bears. Beaudoin has seen action in four games with Hershey this past week. Defenseman Ryan Reid got his first AHL promotion on Wednesday from the Chicago Wolves. He appeared in 2 games for the Wolves.

FIRE POWER: On Wednesday night the Bombers fired a season-high 51 shots against Wheeling. This is only the third time all season they have fired 40 or more shots in a single game...good for us, bad for the Wheeling Nailers. Each time the Bombers have shot 40 or more times, they've faced Wheeling. 40 shots each were sent the Nailers way on November 21 and December 7 resulting in a 3-2 Wheeling victory and 2-0 Bombers shutout, respectively.

MILE MARKER: Sunday's matchup against Elmira was centerman Scott Kelman's 200th regular season ECHL game played.

MILESTONES: Here is a list of Bombers who are the verge of career ECHL milestones:

Rejean Beauchemin: 29 saves shy of 2500 career saves

Mike Berry: 1 assist shy of 50 career assists

Corey LeClair: 4 points shy of 50 career points
