THUNDER SALVAGE POINT- Wichita was able to climb out of a two-goal hole and gain at least a point during this past weekend. On Friday, the Thunder were unable to sustain a two-goal lead and lost to Bloomington, 6-4. The next night, Wichita spotted Bloomington a three-goal lead before scoring two third-period goals in the final 10 minutes before losing 3-2. The Thunder closed out their road trip in Moline, IL and lost in a shootout to the Quad City Mallards, 3-2. Wichita came out of the weekend with a record of 1-3-1 and have the week off to prepare for three-straight against rival, Missouri.
TURNING IT AROUND- The last time Wichita started out with early season struggles, Head Coach Kevin McClelland was able to navigate his club to the post-season. In 2010-11, the Thunder lost their first four games before going on a run of winning six-straight. During his first season as head coach in Wichita, McClelland finished with a record of 34-26-6 and lost in the first round to Missouri in five games.
SHOOTING GALLERY- Even though the Thunder went 0-2-1 during the weekend, they certainly had their opportunities. Wichita averaged 44 shots in their three games while holding their opponents to 30 shots on net. Wichita ranks second in the league in shots for per game (39.40), first in shots taken (197) and first in shots allowed per game (27.20)
RIDIN' HIGH- Chad Painchaud, Neil Trimm and Ian Lowe are all riding scoring streaks after this past weekend. Painchaud is tied with two others with points in five-straight games (6 points) and leads the league with at least an assist in all five games. Lowe has scored points in three-straight (1g, 2a) and Trimm has five points (2g, 3a) in four-straight. Aaron Boogaard is tied for the league-lead with penalty minutes in four-straight games (27 PIM).
100 CLUB- RG Flath is approaching two big milestones for his career. He is just 10 goals shy of reaching 100 as a pro and just six assists shy of reaching 100 in that category. The Park City, UT native has six points so far this season (3g, 3a).
300 CLUB - With an assist last night, Chad Painchaud reached 300 points for his career. The seven-year vet scored 64 points in 2008-09 with Bakersfield of the ECHL and hit 68 points in 2009-10 with Victoria, also in the ECHL. Through five games, he has one goal and five assists.
THUNDERBOLTS... Gregor Hanson leads all rookies in scoring and is also tied with several others in second place in overall scoring with seven points (2g, 5a)...Aaron Boogaard is second in penalty minutes (27) and tied for first in major penalties (3)...Chad Painchaud is first in shots (24)...Kevin Regan is third in minutes played (182:22)...Dave Inman and Kevin Young are tied with several others in second place in scoring by a defenseman (4 points)...Wichita leads the league in goals scored (19) and tied with Bloomington for points scored (51)...Wichita leads the league in majors (5)...
