LAST WEEK - Wichita finished up a three-game set this past week with the Kansas City Mavericks. The Thunder traveled to Independence on Tuesday morning for a Kids Day Game against Kansas City. Wichita led 2-1 in the second, but the Mavericks rattled off four-straight and won the contest, 5-3. The Thunder returned home for back-to-back home games and took three-out-of-four points this past weekend. Stuart Skinner blanked Kansas City, 4-0, on Friday night. The Mavericks came back from a 3-1 deficit on Saturday and won 4-3 in a shootout.
SEVENTH HEAVEN - Steven Iacobellis remained red hot this past week. He recorded three goals and added an assist to extend his point streak to seven games. Over that span, he has five goals and three assists.
FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stuart Skinner picked up his first shutout as a pro on Friday night. He stopped 42 shots en route to the 4-0 win over Kansas City. Nolan Vesey recorded his first goal as a pro on Saturday night. Ryan Van Stralen recorded his first of the year on Saturday night as well.
BROWNIE POINTS - Travis Brown collected two assists on Saturday night, giving him points in five of the last six games. He has eight points (4g, 4a) in 13 games this season for the Thunder.
POWERING UP - Wichita has started to get its power play unit going, scoring five goals in the last four games on the man advantage. Over that span, the Thunder are 5-for-17 on the power play, good for a 29.4% clip.
SCORING FIRST - Wichita has scored first in eight of the 13 games the team has played. The Thunder are 4-0-3-1 in those situations.
STONEWOLF - Wichita and Tulsa will get to know each other better this week in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series. The two teams will play three times in the next four games. The Thunder and Oilers have only played one time so far this season, which was back on October 27th in a 2-1 overtime loss for Wichita. The Oilers will make their first trip to INTRUST Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
