Thunder Take Over First Place

THUNDER HOLD OFF BRAHMAS- Wichita's top line of Mark Kolesar, Travis Clayton and Jason Duda combined for 10 points and 26 shots on goal, leading the Thunder to a 5-4 overtime victory on Friday. Kolesar led the Thunder with four points, including a pair of goals. Clayton, who also had two goals, scored the game-winner with just 11 seconds remaining.

THUNDER BEAT OILERS, TAKE OVER DIVISION LEAD- Travis Clayton broke a 4-4 tie in the third period, leading the Thunder past Tulsa and into first place in the CHL's Northwest Division. Rookie goaltender Matt Carney moved his record to a perfect 4-0-0, as the Thunder won their fifth straight game. Rookie Anders Strome scored his first two pro goals, giving him seven points on the season. The win put the Thunder in first place for the first time since February of 1999.

SIZZLING THREESOME- Wichita's top line of Kolesar, Clayton and Duda exploded this weekend, combining for six goals, 16 points and 42 shots on goal in just two games. The threesome ranks 1-2-3 on the Thunder in scoring, with a total of nine goals and 25 points in six games.

ALLMAN OUT/OWENS BACK IN?- Forward Trevor Allman suffered an injury on Friday and is awaiting the results of an MRI to determine how much time he will miss. The Thunder are hopeful that Allman can return to the lineup in less than two weeks. Defenseman Tony Owens had his cast removed and will practice today. Owens may return to the Thunder lineup on Tuesday. Defenseman Chad Mazurak is expected back in the lineup on Friday.

THUNDERBOLTS- The Thunder lead the CHL in penalty killing at an impressive 96.4%, having allowed just one power play goal in six games...Wichita's power play unit has jumped all the way to eighth in the CHL, at 13.9%...The Thunder rank second in fewest shots allowed, at just 25.8 per game and are outshooting their opponents 212-155...Wichita ranks second in the CHL in goals per game (3.50) and third in the CHL in shots per game (35.3)...The Thunder are 5-0-0 in one-goal games.

PLAYER NOTES- Rookie Ryan Olynyk ranks second in the CHL with five major penalties...Veteran Jason Duda extended his streak of games played to 218...Adam Calder is fourth in the CHL with 36 shots on goals...Travis Clayton has an assist in four straight games and ranks second in the CHL with two game-winning goals...Goalie Matt Carney leads the CHL with four victories...Newcomer Peter Runkel leads Thunder defensemen with three points and a +4 rating in just four games.
