CHL Names Players of the Week

Veteran center Travis Clayton of the Wichita Thunder has been named the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week, while netminder Brent Zelenewich of the Indianapolis Ice has been honored as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week.
Clayton enjoyed an outstanding two games the past week in leading the 5-1-0 Thunder to home victories over Fort Worth and Tulsa. The native of Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, scored a goal and an assist in regulation play, then added the overtime game winning goal with just 12 seconds left in a 5-4 overtime win October 31st against Fort Worth, then added an assist and the game winning goal in a 5-4 victory the following night versus Tulsa. Last season, Clayton led the Thunder with both 35 goals and 57 assists.
Indianapolis goaltender Brent Zelenewich only made one start the past week, but took full advantage of the opportunity by recording his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 overtime win November 1st against visiting Odessa. He turned aside all 27 Odessa shots, including two in overtime, to improve his record to 1-0-1 on the season while dropping his goals against average to just .940 and increasing his save percentage to 96.2. The rookie goaltender joined the Ice following three years at St. Mary's University.
