Bucks Raise $10,000 For TAMIU Athletics
November 3, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Bucks announced today that the post-game auction this past Friday night raised $10,000 to support athletics at Texas A&M International University. The Bucks wore Halloween themed jerseys during their 3-0 win over the Austin Ice Bats and then auctioned them off after the game.
"This is a wonderful example of the generous spirit of the Laredoans that make up our fan base, said Bucks president John Beckelhymer. "Our players and staff wanted to give back to the community which has given so much to the Bucks. The reason the Bucks have been so successful is the support of the community and this was a terrific way to give back and support TAMIU athletics."
Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski filled the role of auctioneer as the Bucks players were individually introduced and their jerseys auctioned off. Despite just completing a tough hockey game the energy level was high.
"As an organization we made a commitment a long time ago to the city of Laredo," said Ruskowski. "We are happy and proud to help out the city and the fans that have treated us so well. TAMIU has always been there for us whenever we've needed help. Being tired isn't a factor when you are supporting those that support you."
Defensemen Dion Hyman and Serge Dube's jerseys were the top money raisers as both went for over $1,000. A special autographed goalie mask was also auctioned, raising the most money for an individual item by going for $1,500 dollars.
