Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder and Stockton Unified School District have once again joined forces, continuing a "Taking College by Storm" program started last year designed to encourage students to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Just as last year, any high school senior within SUSD who takes the SAT exam this Saturday will receive a free ticket voucher to the Thunder vs. Bakersfield Condors game on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.

"The Stockton Thunder is honored to continue its partnership with Stockton Unified School District in this critically important initiative, pushing our youth towards college and beyond," said Thunder president Dan Chapman. "The program was extremely successful last year, and we are of course hoping to build on that success."

Interim Superintendent Steve Vaczovsky said, "The Thunder have been right there for our kids again this year. They understand how important it is to let our students know we believe in them and that they can achieve their dreams. Students who might never have done so without this program are now taking the SAT."

Last year, more than 1,200 seniors took advantage of this opportunity, as over 70% of eligible seniors within the district took the exam, to lead all districts in California on test day. They represented a more than five-hundred percent (500%) increase over the previous year of 2007, when fewer than 10 % of eligible students took the SAT examination, one of the key ingredients for a student's potential enrollment into a four-year college or university.

Through SUSD's initiative, every high school senior will have the opportunity to take the SAT exam this year, free-of-charge, for a savings of $45 on the standard SAT "reasoning exam."
