Trenton Thunder News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Thunder snapped their five-game winning streak snapped with a 5-1 loss to the Akron Aeros Tuesday night.
In front of 3,419 fans the Thunder lost their first game of the 2013 season at home. Akron scored twice in the 3rd inning and three times in the 4th inning for an early 5-0 lead and did not look back the rest of the way.
Starting pitcher Zach Nuding drops to 0-2 on the season after allowing five runs, but was the victim of a few defensive miscues early in the ballgame. Jeremy Bleich was the first man out of the pen and after 4.0 more scoreless innings has run his streak of innings without an earned run to start the season to 12.0. The Thunder bullpen has now thrown 25.1 consecutive innings without an earned run dating back to Thursday night.
Akron starting pitcher T.J. House shut down the Thunder with nine strikeouts and just two hits in 6.0 IP, and at one point retired 13 consecutive batters for his first win of the season.
The Thunder recorded six hits, with Kyle Roller (2-for-4) and Ramon Flores (2-for-4) leading the way offensively for Trenton. The lone run of the game came in the 7th inning when Rob Segedin singled off the glove of Akron first baseman Jesus Aguilar into right field to score J.R. Murphy from second base.
