New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Clint Robinson homered for the first time this season, driving in three runs for the Fisher Cats (6-7) on Tuesday night. But the New Hampshire bullpen couldn't hold onto a four-run lead, losing the game 7-6 to the New Britain Rock Cats. New Britain (7-5) has taken the first two games of the series leaving the Fisher Cats in need of a win in the final on Wednesday morning.
New Britain was the first to score on a wild night, netting an unearned run to make it 1-0 after one. In the third, they got a little help from the umpires as a double to center field brought home Nate Hanson. The play, however, was a little more involved as Hanson was tagged as he slid across home plate, but there was no umpire at the plate, resulting in a safe call and a 2-0 Rock Cats lead.
It didn't take long for the Fisher Cats to answer back in the top of the fourth. Robinson led off the frame with his first homer of the season to deep right-center field. Brad Glenn followed with a triple, and was then brought in on a single to center by Adam Loewen to knot the game at 2-2.
In the seventh, the teams traded a quartet of runs to push the game to 6-6. The Fisher Cats got run-scoring hits from Kevin Pillar and Ryan Schimpf to take a 4-2 lead. Robinson then laced a two-run single to push the advantage to 6-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Tommy Hottovy and Fernando Hernandez combined to allow four Rock Cats runs, highlighted by a two-run Danny Ortiz double. The four-run outburst also took away a potential win for Deck MCGuire, who allowed two earned runs over the first six innings of the game.
The score stayed tied until the ninth when the Fisher Cats stranded two runners in the top of the inning. Joel Carreno (1-1) came on in the bottom of the ninth and allowed a lead-off single - the first hit he had allowed all season long. That runner was sacrificed to second, took third on a grounder, and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
The Fisher Cats now wrap up the road trip trying to end a three-game losing streak on Wednesday morning at 10:35 a.m. RHP Tyson Brummett (0-1, 18.00) makes his second start of the year against New Britain's Pat Dean (0-1, 7.04). Fans can listen to the game with Tom Gauthier beginning at 10:15 a.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday, April 18 for a seven-home homestand with Binghamton and New Britain. The first game of the stand features a fleece blanket giveaway for the first 1,000 fans courtesy of Heritage Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electric.
