New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats needed to dig deep late in the game Tuesday night. Finding themselves down by four, the home team answered back with four of their own in the bottom half of the 7th and then got a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th beating New Hampshire 7-6 at New Britain Stadium and winning their third straight game.
James Beresford led off the 9th with a solid single to center off former Blue Jays right-hander Joel Carreno. He was bunted to second base by Curt Smith, moved to third on a ground ball and then scored on a wild pitch. It was the second time in thee games that the Rock Cats have won in their final at-bat.
The Fisher Cats broke open a 7th inning 2-2 tie by putting together a five-hit, four run frame against Rock Cats reliever Jose Gonzalez.
New Britain scored early in the contest, scoring the first run of the game when leadoff hitter Antoan Richardson scrambled home following a wild pitch from starter Deck McGuire, walking catcher Josmil Pinto in the process. They would add a run two innings later when Nate Hanson scored on a close play at the plate following a double by Pinto.
Tuesday night marked the home debut of starting pitcher Trevor May. The right hander, ranked 9th among Twins prospects, came to the organization following a trade with the Phillies on December 6th involving former Rock Cat outfielder Ben Revere. While he did not figure in the decision, May looked strong, going 5 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits, while walking four and registering a new season-high with eight punchouts.
The Rock Cats and Fisher Cats conclude the series on Wednesday morning at 10:35 AM. Tyson Brummett will pitch against Pat Dean.
