(Trenton, NJ) - The Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce presented its third annual Business Sportsperson of the Year Award to Trenton Thunder Director of Community Relations Patience Purdy on Monday night at the Trenton Country Club.

The award recognizes an individual for their work supporting community outreach initiatives throughout the Princeton regional business community. The recipient also must play an active role as a mentor and partner supporting the Princeton Regional Chamber and its numerous programs and for their philanthropic initiatives supporting the community where they live and work. The award ceremony followed the annual Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Golf & Tennis Outing.

"We are so proud of Patience and the way she represents the Thunder within the greater Trenton community," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "To see her recognized by her peers at the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce really speaks to the impact she has made as a member of the Thunder staff for the last eight years."

Patience Purdy is Director of Community Relations for the Trenton Thunder and the Executive Director of Trenton Thunder Charities. Patience represents the Trenton Thunder throughout the region, solidifying relationships between the team and local nonprofit groups, businesses, chambers of commerce and fans. She is also responsible for creating programs to encourage staff volunteerism and participation with community partners. Patience's philanthropic initiatives have supported a wide range of charitable causes including raising money for educational based non-profits, collecting food and personal items for homeless shelters, sending the Thunder staff and players to help with a Habitat for Humanity home build and raising awareness for homeless animals. Her newest charitable event will take place on June 11 at Waterfront Park - the Paws for a Cause Dog Walk which will raise funds for Res-Q-Pets in Hamilton, the Shelter Animal Project in Trenton and Trenton Thunder Charities.

Past winners of the Business Sportsperson of the Year Award are Dan Faber from National Jr. Tennis & Learning of Trenton and Ed Griffin of Princeton Fuel Oil.
