RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels (18-20) rallied for three runs with two outs in the second inning, and never looked back, dropping the Bowie Baysox (19-20), 4-2, to even a three-game series in front of 4,258 at The Diamond on Wednesday night.

With two outs in the second inning, the Squirrels offense erupted with five consecutive singles against Bowie starter Zach Clark. Roger Kieschnick started the uprising with a single back through the middle. Sharlon Schoop, Mike McBryde, Charlie Culberson and Ryan Lormand followed with successive singles as the Squirrels took a 3-0 lead. McBryde was credited with an RBI, while Lormand drove in two runs with his single to right field.

A one-out walk issued by Squirrels' starter Ryan Verdugo to Greg Miclat helped Bowie get on the board in the third inning. Miclat stole second base and scored a batter later on an RBI single from Robbie Widlansky.

The Baysox crept to within a run in the fifth when Xavier Avery led off with a double to right-center field. Miclat sacrificed him to third, and Avery scored to trim the Richmond lead to 3-2 when Caleb Joseph bounced out to second base.

Verdugo (2-0) departed with the lead after five innings, having conceded a pair of earned runs. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out three as he earned his second victory of the season over the Baysox. Clark (4-2) got back on track after the second inning, but was lifted to the loss after five innings. He surrendered three earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Richmond stretched their lead back to two runs with an unearned run against right-hander Tim Bascom in the sixth inning. With one out, Juan Perez reached on an error charged to first baseman Brandon Waring. A batter later, with Perez at second, Schoop laced an RBI single into center field for a 4-2 advantage.

Right-hander Osiris Matos was sensational in relief for the Squirrels, following Verdugo with three perfect innings. He threw first-pitch strikes to all nine batters he faced, fanning three. Squirrels' closer Jason Stoffel turn in a redemptive performance, claiming his fifth save of the season by striking out two and closing out the win with a scoreless ninth inning. Stoffel had blown his last two saves against the Baysox.

The series-finale is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Wednesday night at The Diamond. LHP Eric Surkamp (2-2, 1.88) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Wynn Pelzer (1-4, 3.63) for the Baysox. For tickets or more information, visit SquirrelsBaseball.com.
